Year 9 Experiential Learning

The start of Term 2 has seen Holy Eucharist students encounter two great opportunities for more experiential learning to take place, to bring back into the classroom. Below are some thoughts and reflections from students who were there for these great initiatives.

Romeo and Juliet Production

"During the first two periods on May the 2nd, we as a cohort were lucky enough to experience a condensed version of the Shakespeare classic, Romeo and Juliet. The play was done so that we could understand what was being said and how it related to characters in their time as well as our own. The actors who presented created an immersive and enjoyable experience which in turn helped students gain a proper understanding Shakespeare’s ideas portrayed in the play and the true meaning that the play holds for society. Overall I’d rate this spectacular performance a 10 out of 10!!"

Alliance City Experience

Another example of the students’ participation in experiential learning occurred on Wednesday 4 May where they went into the city and visited three key aspects of Melbourne’s culture; the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV), the MCG and the Laneways of the CBD. The task was centered around an inquiry based project. Below is a recount of the day by one of our students:

"As part of our Alliance fieldwork report, our cohort was lucky enough to go on an independent excursion in the city. We got to travel to three specific areas, including the MCG, the Arts precinct, and the Laneways precinct. My favourite was the MCG tour, as we were able to travel through all the levels and learn more about its history. During the excursion we were to fill out a booklet and take pictures so that we had enough information about our assessment. I really enjoyed how we were able to be independent and do some things on our own."
